Gaines Center names 12 new scholars

The University of Kentucky Gaines Center for Humanities has selected 12 exceptional undergraduates as new scholars for the university's Gaines Fellowship Program for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years.

Women Making History: UK researcher works to preserve collective memory of WWI

Pearl James, Ph.D., studies what some scholars call a “Twilight Zone of History,” a moment between what’s passed down through family memory and what’s accessible through historical texts. Her research focus is on war studies, war literature and war film with an emphasis on World War I.

Nominations open for Lewis Honors College Founding Dean's Award for Faculty Excellence in Honors Education

Two $500 awards will be given once per academic year to be announced at the Lewis Honors College Medal Ceremony. A Lewis lecturer whose department home is the Lewis Honors College will be the recipient of one award, while the other one will be given to a member of the Honors faculty or any faculty member who teaches an Honors section or supervises Honors students doing research or an independent study.

Four new faculty will join Lewis Honors College teaching classes including creative writing, business-related topics, media influence, and nontraditional research methods.

Lewis Honors College, Patterson School simulation gives students in-depth knowledge of US-China relations

The simulation participants emphasized U.N.-moderated dialogue between the U.S. and China. In addition to strengthening trust between the two nations, students also focused on reducing the threat of nuclear escalation, green energy and cultural exchange.

MacArthur Fellow Robin Kimmerer to present on 'Indigenous Wisdom and Scientific Knowledge'

Kimmerer is a State University of New York Distinguished Teaching Professor of Environmental Science and Forestry. She also serves as the founder and director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment whose mission is to create programs which draw on the wisdom of both indigenous and scientific knowledge for shared goals of sustainability.
