Lewis Honors College engineering student 'on track' to achieve roller coaster design dreams

Every year, millions of amusement park patrons from coast to coast and around the world stand in line — often for hours under a scorching sun — to experience the brief adrenaline-fueled, stomach-flipping thrills of roller coasters. For most, the exhilaration dissipates when they exit the wooden or steel-tracked car. For others, it marks the genesis of a lifelong career as it did for Lewis Honors College student Brysen Honeycutt.

2024 Gaines Student Fellows announced

The University of Kentucky Gaines Center for the Humanities has announced the selection of 12 outstanding undergraduate students (including five Lewis Honors College students) for the Gaines Fellowship Program. This highly competitive and prestigious program selects 12 UK students each academic year. 

Kentucky Blood Center returns to UK April 1–5

University of Kentucky students, staff and faculty and the local community will have a final opportunity to donate blood on campus for the 2023-24 school year April 1-5. Donations can be made at the Lewis Honors College from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 4-5.

18 UK students win at the American Advertising Awards

On Feb. 23, Ad Club Lexington hosted its annual American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in advertising. At the awards ceremony, a total of 18 University of Kentucky students were awarded with either a Gold or Silver ADDY for their group or individual student work. At least two students were Lewis Honors College students including Emma Reilly and Cailey Bingham!

UK undergraduate researchers present at the state Capitol

A number of Lewis Honors College students were selected to represent UK at the 22nd annual Posters-at-the-Capitol held on March 7, which featured 13 University of Kentucky undergraduate research projects with important implications for issues in Kentucky, including public safety, energy conservation, homeownership and lung cancer prevention.

Bestselling novelist, Kentucky Poet Laureate Silas House to deliver UK Libraries' 2024 Prichard Lecture

Kentucky Poet Laureate and nationally bestselling author Silas House is the featured speaker for the 2024 Edward F. Prichard Lecture on March 21 at 5 PM and visiting with the Lewis Honors College community on March 26 at 6 PM in the Lewis Scholars Lounge.

2024 Great Teacher Award winners honored

What makes a good teacher a great one? University of Kentucky students were eager to share their opinions about the best teacher in their lives, nominating them for one of the most esteemed awards on campus. The UK Alumni Association 2024 Great Teacher Award was recently bestowed upon six UK educators including two professors who teach Lewis Honors College courses: Dr. Zada Komara and Dr. Eric Thomas Weber.

Computer science junior awarded Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Germany

Kyra Gegner, a computer science junior at the University of Kentucky and Lewis Honors College, has been awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to support her education abroad goals.

Recognizing women making impact, advancing Kentucky during Women’s History Month

Throughout March, the University of Kentucky is spotlighting “Women Making History” across academia, health care, research and beyond. On March 7, the Lewis Honors College and the MLK Center are hosting Trauma Informed Yoga from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the MLK Center in the Gatton Student Center

Lewis Honors College student awarded Fulbright Canada-Mitacs Research Internships

The University of Kentucky Office of Nationally Competitive Awards has announced Lewis Honors College student Ella Brown-Terry and Rachel Hwang have been awarded Fulbright Canada-MITACS Globalink Research Internships, which will be completed this summer.
