UK senior Beaux Hardin to deliver 31st annual Breathitt Lecture

Beaux Hardin, a University of Kentucky senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, Lewis Honors College student and Gaines Fellow, has been selected to give the 31st annual Edward T. Breathitt Undergraduate Lectureship in the Humanities. Hardin’s lecture will explore poetry as a creative medium that invents new language, connecting people across cultures and creating an immaterial space that redefines identity.

Documentary highlights Lewis Honors College custodian and her philosophy on cleaning and life

“The Keeping Space,” a 15-minute documentary that shines a light on the often-unseen work by UK custodian Shelia Lackey, will be featured 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Lexington’s Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center. University of Kentucky Documentary co-directors Jena Seiler, Ph.D., Lewis Honors College lecturer, Nicole Martin, Ph.D., former honors college director of academic affairs, will be at the screening and participate in the discussion.  The screening is sponsored by the Gaines Center for the Humanities.

Members at the University of Kentucky gathered Feb. 28 for the annual Lewis Honors College “Lead Your Way” Leadership Conference, an event designed to explore how leadership takes shape across disciplines and experiences. Hosted at the honors college by the Singletary Scholars class of 2029 cohort, the conference brought together community leaders, faculty and students for a day of discussion, reflection and learning about what it truly means to lead.

Space, science, and Kentucky’s future: “Becoming Martian” author to speak at UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 11, 2026) — Evolutionary biologist Scott Solomon will discuss his recently released book “Becoming Martian” 4- 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in the Lewis Scholars Lounge. Lewis Honors College, Humanity in Deep Space, and Kentucky Space Futures are co-hosting this free public event. Solomon will discuss how living beyond Earth could reshape human bodies, minds, and society. He will also answer questions and sign copies of his book, which is available for purchase on-site.
