Two UK Students Bring Home Gold Following Research Competitions

Last week, UK graduate and undergraduate students competed in the final rounds of the inaugural 5-Minute Fast Track Research Competition and the 3-Minute Thesis Competition (3MT), academic competitions that cultivates students’ presentation and research communication skills, and challenges students to describe their research in a short period of time.

UK Senior Wins Astronaut Scholarship, Brooke Owens Fellowship

UK biology and neuroscience senior Esther Putman, of Lexington, is having an out of this world year. This summer, she was named one of 50 recipients of a $10,000 scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. In addition, Putman was one of 40 recipients of a Brooke Owens Fellowship, which matches its fellows with paid summer internships in the aviation and space industry.

UK's Office of Nationally Competitive Awards has announced that doctoral students Calah Ford and Lydia Hager and 2018 graduate Aaron Mueller have been selected to receive government-funded National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships. In addition, six other UK students were recognized by the NSF program.
