Gaines Center’s Breathitt Lecture to Examine Using Space to Give Voice to Emotions Surrounding Displacement

Emily Andreasson, a University of Kentucky interiors and French and Francophone studies senior and Lewis Honors College member from Williamsburg, Michigan, has been selected to deliver the 26th Edward T. Breathitt Undergraduate Lectureship in the Humanities beginning 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1, on Zoom. Andreasson’s lecture will focus on use of space for expression and healing brought on by displacement.

Honors Alumni Q&A with Amanda Higgins '07

Amanda L. Higgins '07  Profession: Community Engagement Administrator, Kentucky Historical Society.  Education: Amanda graduated from UK and the Honors program in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in history. A scholar in American history, she went on to earn her master's degree in 2009 and completed her Ph.D. in 2013. 

Appalachian Center, Lewis Honors College to Host Screening, Discussion of ‘Lillian Smith: Breaking the Silence’

“Lillian Smith: Breaking the Silence” will be available to the UK community and the public to watch March 17-24. In addition to the film, a Q&A session and discussion will take place 3-4:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, on Zoom.

Honors Alumni Q&A with Carla Curtsinger ‘85

Carla Curtsinger '85  Profession: Communications Consultant, Self-Employed Education: UK College of Communication & Information and UK Honors program graduate, who earned a bachelor's of science in broadcast/multimedia journalism and a minor in political science. She went on to earn a master's certification in publishing from New York University. 

UK Theatre Students, Faculty Represent at Kennedy Center Regional Festival and Present Virtual Season

Work by several students and faculty from the University of Kentucky Department of Theatre and Dance was recognized at the virtual Region 4 Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival Feb. 4–7, 2021. 

How UK Students Use Their iPads

In its third year of the program, the Smart Campus Initiative has provided incoming, first-year students with an iPad Air, Apple Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil. Currently, more than 12,000 UK-issued iPads are on campus being used by freshmen, sophomores, faculty and staff. 

Lewis Honors College Celebrates Lyman T. Johnson Award Winners

The University of Kentucky Alumni Association Lyman T. Johnson African American Alumni Group, in partnership with the UK Office for Institutional Diversity, hosted the 30th annual Lyman T. Johnson Torch Bearer and Torch of Excellence awards virtually on Feb. 1. The program honors and celebrates African American students and alumni from each college who epitomize the ideals of Lyman T. Johnson.
