Life in Honors

The Lewis Honors College offers the Honors Residential Experience for new and returning Lewis Honors College students. The Community of Scholars LLP is reserved for non-Lewis Honors College students who seek a living and learning environment with like-minded academically focused individuals. For more information, please see the table below.

All students who wish to live on campus must complete a housing application. Once the housing application is complete and you are admitted to the Lewis Honors College, you will be eligible to participate in priority room selection which begins early March and continues on a rolling basis based on the date you completed your housing application. You will receive an email notifying you of your room selection window period.

Prospective Honors students who apply and are accepted to the Community of Scholars prior to February 15 and learn that they are admitted to the Lewis Honors College on February 15 will have their room selection options shift to allow them to see spaces in the Honors Residential Experience within Lewis and Haggin Halls (instead of Community of Scholars).

For questions or more information, contact Lewis Honors College Assistant Dean Sally Foster.

DESCRIPTION Live among like-minded peers who are intellectually curious and prioritize their studies, well-being, and community. Honors housing provides students with opportunities for engagement in programs that are holistic in nature -- attending to all facets of well-being (intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, environmental, financial, occupational, and emotional). Students in this distinctive community enjoy opportunities to engage with faculty, staff, and guest speakers during interdisciplinary programs. Residents also have access to a relaxation room designed specifically for high-achieving students. The goal is for members to become life-long learners as they aspire to live a balanced life in their communities and society beyond the University of Kentucky experience.
NEW INCOMING STUDENTS Admissions decisions for the incoming Honors class will be available on February 15, 2024. New students admitted to the Lewis Honors College are automatically eligible for the Honors Residential Experience. No separate application is needed. However, admissions to the Honors College does not guarantee a room in either of the specified halls. Prospective and new students need to first complete the University of Kentucky Campus Housing Application. Those who are eligible will participate in priority room selection windows starting Monday, March 4, 2024. New incoming students should complete the University of Kentucky Campus Housing Application which includes the opportunity to provide preference for up to three LLPs. Select the Community of Scholars as your first choice if you want to prioritize living in Honors housing. LLP applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage students to apply early for optimal considerations. The final deadline to apply is May 15, 2024. Students who are offered and accept an invitation to Community of Scholars are eligible to participate in priority room selection windows starting Monday, March 4, 2024.
RETURNING STUDENTS Returning Honors students should complete the University of Kentucky Campus Housing Application. There is no longer an additional application to live in the Honors residence halls. Room selection for returning Honors students begins Monday, October 9, 2023 and will continue on a first-come, first-served basis. Room selection will be focused in Lewis and Haggin Halls. Returning non-Honors students should complete the University of Kentucky Campus Housing Application which includes the opportunity to provide preference for up to three LLPs. Select the Community of Scholars as your first choice if you want to prioritize living in Honors housing. LLP applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage students to apply early for optimal considerations. Students who are offered and accept an invitation to Community of Scholars are eligible to participate in room selection windows starting Monday, October 9, 2023.
ROOMMATES Both returning and new Honors students have the ability to bring a roommate of their choosing with them into the space. The roommate must be a University of Kentucky student but does not need to be enrolled in the Lewis Honors College. In these cases, roommates should be aware that there are no connected courses or programming. Honors students who want to room with a non-Honors student will need to provide roommate information directly to UK Housing during the room selection process. Roommates must also apply, be invited, and accept their offer to live in the Community of Scholars LLP.
