How to Honor the Balance
I honor the balance by giving myself permission to rest. That might sound a bit strange--permission to rest-- but it is a gift I had to learn to give myself. In my 20s and 30s, I was a person who would work, do community service, and study until I could not go another step. While this led to success in my life, it also led to illness and burnout. Now I listen to my mind and body. I take naps, schedule recovery days after teaching or hosting events, and I actually use my vacation time. These may sound like mundane or common-sense choices, but in a world that prioritizes work over well-being, rest is a bold decision. Rest is how I honor the balance.
Schedule time to rest. You schedule work, study, clubs and obligations--schedule your rest as well.
