Faculty Feature: Dr. Celise Chilcote-Fricker
Join us to learn more about "Respect, Responsibility, and Repatriation: Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act at UK" during our Faculty Feature with Dr. Celise Chilcote-Fricker on February 8 at 5:00 PM in the Lewis Scholars Lounge.
Dr. Chilcote-Fricker is a bioarchaeologist specializing in the examination of skeletal markers of bone growth and maintenance, and activity-related stress. Her research interests focus on the embodiment of social processes via skeletal plasticity, activity patterns and the interplay between lifecourse and social identities. She pursues these interests by investigating how the human body represents a contextually dependent materiality that can illuminate information about the connection between an individual, the different stages of their life and identity(s), and reveal how they were situated within the context of the larger society in which they existed. Additionally, she is the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Coordinator for UK spearheading the repatriation effort at the William S. Webb Museum of Anthropology. The NAGPRA effort focuses on returning all Native ancestors and Cultural Items in the Webb museum's care to the appropriate entities in the most respectful way possible.
