Purpose

To connect Honors students with alumni of the UK Honors Program to provide support as students develop professional skills and positive life habits. Students receive guidance on topics such as communication skills, networking strategies, time and stress management, and career development.

Time Frame

Alumni are recruited and registered during the summer. Students apply to the program during the first month of school. Lewis Honors College staff review the applications, then assign and notify mentoring pairs. The program launches in September and continues through April. Mentor and mentee pairs are welcome to continue working together after the conclusion of the formal program.

Mentoring Process

It is recommended that mentors and mentees meet monthly. Meetings can occur in person, over the phone, or virtually.

A program launch and conclusion meeting is held with all participants. These gatherings will be in-person, virtual, or a combination of both.

Mentors have access to suggested articles and conversation outlines to utilize as needed.

Students and mentors will complete surveys periodically and at the conclusion of the program to reflect on the experience and provide feedback.

Application

Interested alumni can complete a brief application to express interest in serving as a mentor. The details of the application will be utilized to make the mentoring assignments with students.
