UK 2023 Homecoming royalty crowned

Lewis Honors College students Princess Magor Agbozo, of Ghana, West Africa, and Joshua Griffith, of Greenup, Kentucky, were crowned the 2023 University of Kentucky Homecoming queen and king during the halftime ceremonies at the UK vs. Missouri Homecoming football game at Kroger Field Saturday night.

UK Honors alumna wins 2023 Alumni Global Impact Award

At the Global Impact Award reception held on October 4, Ambassador Christine Elder ’89 accepted the 2023 Alumni Global Impact Award for recognition of her outstanding career. She is one of six awardees who were recognized in six different categories. Elder graduated from the University of Kentucky Honors program with a bachelor’s degree in Germanic Language and Literature. She also has a master’s degree in international relations from The George Washington University.

Lewis Colloquium to feature author David Sloan Wilson Oct. 18

During Wilson’s talk titled “Generalized Darwinism: A New Paradigm for Positive Cultural Change," he will share how evolution’s survival of the fittest theory has moved from a presumption of selfishness toward a model that prioritizes social cooperation. The event will be held Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. in the Lewis Scholars Lounge.

Award-winning summer: UK senior named Astronaut Scholar, DAAD RISE intern

It has been an award-winning summer for one University of Kentucky senior — Isha Chauhan. The biology and Lewis Honors College student from La Grange, Kentucky, was named one of the country’s 68 prestigious Astronaut Scholarship recipients and completed a DAAD RISE research internship in Germany.

UK presents 'Cafecito con Chavez: An Evening with Eduardo Chavez'

The University of Kentucky Martin Luther King Center, Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Lewis Honors College, College of Arts and Sciences, and Department of Hispanic Studies are hosting “Cafecito con Chavez: An Evening with Eduardo Chavez.”

Lyman T. Johnson award winners announced

Nearly 40 alumni and students will be honored during the 32nd annual Lyman T. Johnson Awards Luncheon 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the Gatton Student Center Grand Ballroom on UK’s campus including Lewis Honors College professor Sherelle Roberts, student Zora Woolfolk, and alumna Dr. Eseosa Ighodaro.

New UK startup seeks to turn US trash into Kentucky treasure

Jack Groppo, Zebulon Hart and Lucas Bertucci are co-founders of Verdant Beneficiated Resources, a critical materials recovery company. Their mission: Turn the millions of tons of refuse generated across the nation each year, including electronics waste, into a new Kentucky industry.

Call for posters: UK Sustainability announces research poster competition

Students can present their posters during the UK Sustainability Showcase from 5-7 p.m. in the atrium of the Healthy Kentucky Research Building (HKRB) on Sept. 27. The submission deadline is Monday, Sept. 18.

26 students selected for Undergraduate Research Ambassador program

The program’s mission is to increase awareness and create opportunities for students to actively engage in research. Ambassadors must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and be involved in mentored research.
