HON 140, “Knowledge and Society,” is a deep, interactive, and engaging seminar for first-year students. In this class, students are invited to consider from fresh angles things that seem simple on the surface—like learning, education, knowledge, words, identity, and our physical world—all while getting to know their peers and Lewis faculty. A completely unique course, designed entirely by Lewis faculty, it is the signature honors course experience—the only course that all honors students will take, while each section takes on some elements of the style and ideas of the given faculty member teaching it. Many students find it transformative, their favorite undergraduate class, a welcome shift from their major, or the place where they made some of their closest college friends. For all students, this class is both personal and far-reaching, and a chance to feel welcomed into the Honors community by fellow students and professors.
